 OBSERVERS' WEEK
The first week of lessons in each month is Observers' Week where we allow parents and visitors to watch from inside the classroom. This is a great opportunity for parents to see how their child is progressing and areas where they can use more practice at home. It is also a chance for the dancers to learn to perform for an audience. But, in order to make observer's day effective, here are some guidelines to follow:
1.   We ask that observers are quiet and remain seated. Please do not bring in children that are unable to sit still, and please do not leave young children in the waiting room unattended.
2. Turn off all cell phones and pagers.
3.   Do not talk to your child during class. We ask that you leave the instruction to us during the hour and please don't be offended if we must ask you or others to leave during the hour in order to maintain class focus.
4.   If your child cries or becomes very distracted, please leave the room and remain unseen by your child until the teacher signals your return.
5.   When helping your child practice out of class, encourage your child to focus on one task at a time (IE: rhythm and timing, determining right and left efficiently, coordinating more than one body part at a time, balancing, ETC.). White we may be working on a number of skills in one hour, we do not expect every child to master all the skills at once.

A Note to the Parents of Young Dancers
At Billy Glower Dance Studio, our youngest dancers are considered a very special group of people. What a privilege it is to be able to give your children exposure to so many things that are new and exciting to them; melodies, rhythms, choreography, group learning, body awareness, group formations, and many more. At such a young age, those creative little minds are truly like sponges and eager to learn. However, they are easily distracted or upset if their learning environment is not carefully planned and prepared. Our desire is that your child will feel free and comfortable to enjoy every activity and lesson in class. Over the years we have discovered a few important hints that can guide you in preparing your dancer each week. So please take a moment to review these "ABC's" and you will be giving your child the best of dance experiences.

A - Arrive early - Children who enter after class has formally begun often feel unsettled for a large portion of the class. Of course, there are emergencies that sometimes arise, but make every effort to be in the classroom at least 5 minutes early so that your child can connect with the teacher, the classmates and be ready to dance.

B - Bathroom first - We take requests to "go potty" very seriously. But there is often a domino effect that follows such a request with one child needing a turn inspiring 9 more to follow. Please help us avoid unnecessary interruptions by having your child use the bathroom each week before class begins.

C - Check equipment - One of the most distressing things that can happen for a small dancer is to be unable to find the correct shoes or dance bag when the time comes to change shoes.  Please write your child's name on the bottoms or insides of each of their tap, ballet, or jazz shoes and inside of their bag as well.
Following these simple requests will make a significant difference to your dancer and the teachers at the studio. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

 STUDIO RULES
1.No food or drink (except water) in either classroom.
2. Make sure shoes are clean and tap screws are secured before class.
3. No unattended children in studio. This is not a child proof facility.
4. No statement adjustments. Classes may be made-up if missed.
5. Discard gum or candy before class.
6. Please empty sand from children's shoes outside.
7. Please arrive to class on time. Late arrivals disturb students.
8. Pick up your own trash in waiting area.
9. Wear proper dance attire and shoes.
10.Go to restroom before class begins.

 Dance Equipment
Parents and students please mark your name in all your dance shoes. When shoes are left or mixed up, we then know to whom they belong.

We do not enforce a strict dress code here at BCDS, however, we do appreciate parents exercising good judgment for young students. Please do not allow them to wear play clothes or fancy costumes to class. Please wear clothing designed specifically for dancer  serious exercise.  Proper shoes are also important for class. There are different shoes designed offered at the studio. Wearing the proper shoes for the proper classes is a must. Hip Hop students make sure your shoes are clean before entering the studio.

Ballet dancers please secure your hair back and do not wear jeans, cargo pants, jazz pants or baggy dance wear that prevents the teacher from seeing your ankles, knee, hips torso, and arm positioning.  Please wear tights and ballet outfits.

Students not properly equipped for class may be asked to sit and watch all, or a portion of their class, and advanced students will be required to take one page of notes during their class observation.
